Overview
The ETX-P3 (Embedded Technology
eXtended) is an extremely compact Intel®
Pentium® III or Celeron® processor based
module. It uses low power (mobile) processors,
eliminating the need for active cooling in many
applications. The
ETX-P3 includes onboard sound, Ethernet, and
high-speed AGP graphics subsys-tems as well
as a full complement
of standard PC I/O. The SoundBlaster™
compatible sound chip is supported by most operating
systems. The Ethernet
controller of the ETX-P3, also with extensive
operating system support, is a 10/100 Mbit interface.
Additional
onboard communication interfaces include two
serial TTL ports, an EPP/ECP parallel port,
and two USB ports. The
ATI® Rage Mobility AGP video controller
operates CRT monitors as well as LVDS LCD panels
at 16 bits per pixel
(4MByte video RAM version). Access to all I/O
signals is through the ETX board-to-board interface
connectors. The
interface also includes both the ISA and PCI
bus. ETX modules are like components, plugging
on to an application specifi c baseboard supplying
the core CPU and memory subsystems together
with sound, video, Ethernet
and standard PC I/O. They connect to the rest
of the embedded system through high-density,
low profi le, surfacemount connectors, which
carry both ISA and PCI bus signals as well as
dedicated I/O interfaces. The mechanics of the
interconnection is such that an ETX/baseboard
combination is virtually the same height as
a one board solution. ETX modules are scaleable
and interchangeable. ETX enables rapid development
of semicustom solutions for embedded
applications. .... always
